For this project, we were tasked to create a newspaper about a noteworthy figure we admired and capture their essence through the use of typography. Over the course of the quarter, we created six different words from image, place, and texture, culminating in my work, The Butler Bulletin: Understanding Octavia. It explores the amazing and fantastical literary novelist Octavia Butler, who’s afro-futuristic sci-fic and fantasy novels have inspired me heavily throughout my later life. I first discovered Octavia Butler through a short story, Bloodchild, in an undergraduate course at NYU, and afterwards became an enormous fan of her longer works and series.
